Stibnite - Antimony Ore
Antimony is used for making alloys or for compounds of medicinal value. It’s most common alloying metal is lead. When mixed with lead to make letters for typesetting, it sharpens the precision of the metal, allowing for a clearer imprint. Other alloys with antimony include pewter (with lead) and brittania metal for tableware (with tin and copper).
It is used to fashion "butter of antimony," which enhances the
louche effects (causing the milky appearance) of absinthe, and is used to dissolve or remove the horn stubs of calves without having to cut them off, and as a mordant in dyeing cloth. Antimony is also used in the manufacture of pyrotechnics and paints.
